ETS offers two leadership pathway programs that combine immersive summer internships with weekly professional development for undergraduate and graduate students. Since 2016, more than 480 scholars and fellows have participated, creating a growing network of program alumni. Explore each program below.
Yale Conservation Scholars - Early Leadership Initiative
ETS hosts the Yale Conservation Scholars–Early Leadership Initiative (YCS–ELI), a leadership pathway program for undergraduate students pursuing careers in conservation and related environmental fields. Scholars gain hands-on experience through one or two summer internships with environmental nonprofits, research institutions, or government agencies. Approximately one-quarter of program participants go on to pursue graduate degrees.
Environmental Fellows Program
We also direct the Environmental Fellows Program. The program was housed at the University of Michigan from 2016-2020. It moved to Yale in fall 2020. The program provides a summer internship to master’s and doctoral students who are in the environmental sector. Fellows do internships in environmental grantmaking foundations or environmental nonprofits around the country.
