Dr. Ashley Bell is a Research Scientist at the Yale School of the Environment, where she works with Dr. Dorceta Taylor in the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Sustainability Initiative. Her research examines environmental justice, food access, and the relationships between neighborhood conditions and food availability. Her current work explores food environments near brownfield sites.
Dr. Bell earned her doctorate in Environmental Health Sciences from Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, where she studied the association between fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure and the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. She joined Yale as a Postdoctoral Associate before transitioning to her current role. In addition to her research, she mentors student researchers and leads GIS workshops to support the lab’s research and training activities.
Outside of her research, Dr. Bell enjoys CrossFit and reading fantasy novels.
